Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) just published a series of articles on the Ridgecrest earthquakes that hit California a year ago. The series cover the earthquakes from a wide scope of persectives from rapid geological, geotechnical, geodetic and seismological field investigations to capture surface evidence and geophysical data that decay fast with time. The collection of articles shed light on rapid post-earthquake reconnaissance, and detailed observations of structures and processes ranging from the surface to the upper mantle and illustrate the importance of community-led collaboration. Many fundamentals remain unsolved, but the new knowledge and insights significantly keep the rapidly developing earthquake science advancing and improve our ability to response to future earthquakes.
