Title: Basin Modeling for Oil and Gas Exploration and Production: Applications and Challenges
Speaker: Dr. Alan Yu
Professor of the Practice, Department of Geology & Geophysics, Texas A&M University
Abstract: Basin Modeling is an important technology for oil and gas exploration and production. It reconstructs basins’ 1) burial, 2) fluid flow and compaction, 3) heat transfer, and
4) hydrocarbon generation, expulsion, migration and accumulation histories through forward numerical 1D/2D/3D simulations based on Darcy law, mass-balance, energy conversation and empirical geological relations. This technique has been widely used in the exploration and production in various scales from regional, sub-regional, play/prospect to field development for petroleum system analysis, and well planning pre-drill to post well analysis. This presentation will focus on the critical applications and the challenges and opportunities for further study with this area.
